Privacy Policy

How Safer collects, uses, and protects your data. Your safety information belongs to you.

Safer Global ("Safer", "we", "our", "the app") is a personal safety application. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

Important: Safer is not a replacement for emergency services. In a life-threatening situation, always call your local emergency number (such as 911).

1. Data we collect

Account information

  • Name and email address — collected during sign-in via Google or Apple.
  • Profile photo — from your Google or Apple account (optional).

Location data

  • Precise location — collected when you press HELP, start a Watch Me session, or share your location with contacts.
  • Background location — collected continuously only during active Watch Me sessions to monitor your movement and safety.
  • Location data is shared with responders only during active emergency events.

Audio data

  • Emergency recordings — microphone audio is recorded during HELP countdown and emergency events to provide context to responders.
  • Voice detection — during Watch Me sessions, the microphone listens for your safe word (processed on-device and not stored unless an emergency is triggered).

Contacts

  • Emergency contacts — phone numbers you manually add are stored in your profile.
  • Device contacts — accessed only when you use the "Send to Contacts" feature; we do not store your contact list.

Chat messages

  • Text messages, system messages, and conversation history are stored to provide the chat experience.

2. How we use your data

  • Emergency response: your location, audio, and messages are shared with your trusted circle and responders when you trigger a HELP alert.
  • Watch Me monitoring: your location is tracked to detect unusual stops or movement during active sessions.
  • AI assistance: your chat messages are processed by a third-party AI service to provide safety guidance (see Section 3).
  • App functionality: account data is used to authenticate you and maintain your profile.

3. Third-party AI processing

Safer uses Anthropic's Claude AI to provide chat responses and emergency summaries. When you send a message:

  • Your message and recent context are sent to Anthropic's API via our secure backend.
  • Anthropic does not use your data to train their AI models.
  • Core safety features (HELP, Watch Me, location sharing) work independently of AI.

4. Third-party services

  • Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions.
  • Google Maps / Places API — address lookup and geocoding.
  • Anthropic Claude API — AI chat responses and emergency summaries.
  • Apple Sign-In — authentication on iOS devices.

5. Data storage and security

  • All data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) with encryption at rest and in transit.
  • API keys and secrets are stored securely and never in the app code.
  • Audio recordings and photos are stored with access controls.

6. Data retention and deletion

  • Emergency event data is retained for your safety records.
  • Chat conversations are retained as long as your account is active.

7. Your rights

  • You can review your data within the app (conversations, emergency history).
  • You can request data export or deletion — see Data Request.
  • You can revoke location and microphone permissions at any time in your device settings.

8. Children's privacy

Safer is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
